Inspir*

A friend of mine came to me saying he needed a logo for an event he has going on soon in an organization he created.

And it's just been filling up a lot of my day.
I've forgotten how good it feels just to make things.
In Illustrator of course.
I miss it.

Update on Life

Hey Blogspot,

I've been thinking about you and I thought my life deserved an update.
Well I have left New York you know, it's been about a month now, *sadface*.
Although I didn't love it, I do kind of miss the new adventures everyday.

But now I'm back in Richmond for good (for now). And living comfortably in an affordable apartment. It was my top priority.

Now I am scratching the surface for a job I will actually enjoy and be able to use my many skills in. I have my eye on a certain company or 2. I'm just hoping these folks will call me so they can have my wonderful self running around their office and succeeding.

It's just a matter of time.

Companies, you know who you are.

Hire me, kthx.

A Fine Frenzy.
This new 'band' I've picked up on in the past few weeks is more awesome than a little bit.

Her name is Alison Sudol and she sings like an angel.
I just thought I'd share. =)

Ode to Coney

I recently noticed a long time favorite piece of inspiration of mine was Coney Island. I look at this picture almost every day and didn't even know what it was. I don't even know who made it. I just knew that it was beautiful and I wanted it to be a part of my life. I call it the Ode to Coney.(below)

Being in New York, I noticed what the F train was and figured out that it goes to Coney Island. From that moment on, I knew I had to go there. Even if I had to go alone.

On Friday, I went. I rode the train there, and found the intersection, Stillwell and Surf. It looked like the picture did, kind of. I think I was going there in hopes of finding something. Some kind of destiny or something. A dude, a place, I don't know what I was looking for.

I took a few pictures of the intersection, and then decided to explore the island a bit. I walked the beach, and the boardwalk, and then I went to Nathan's, and had a famous corn dog. Listened to a guy sweeping the stairs talk about how much he hates his boss.

I walked some more. Although I wasn't too sure what I was looking for, I kept walking. Eventually I ended up back at Surf and Stillwell. Looked again, and still didn't see anything. Nothing that I was looking for?

Anyway. I still feel like there's something there for me. And maybe I'll go back one day. Meh.

Oh well this was my tribute to 'Ode to Coney.'

I love it.

Anti Cover Letter... Haha I actually sent this to people. Hey, it's pure me.

Cover letter… it’s just another one of those overbearing concepts in a job hunter’s world.
Some of us need them, others find them useless, and some people are simply afraid of them.
But really, what’s there to be afraid of? A lot actually; starting with the fact that there’s a huge disconnect in what a cover letter COULD be, and what a cover letter actually is.

Let’s break it down by word.

Cover.
There are over 50 definitions of the word, but in most cases it means to protect or to disappear from sight. When a person ‘covers,’ it’s usually has a lot to do with hiding behind something. You cover windows with curtains so no one can see what’s going on in your home. You cover walls with paint, so that no one sees how bare and plain they are. People cover their faces in make up to hide blemishes and bumps.
To get to the base of those things and others, you have to put in effort and scratch the surface to see what’s really inside. And for the most part, it’s hard to tell what’s even under the surface at all.

And letter.
A letter could be a whole page of words scrambled together, or just the 26 parts of alphabet itself. To back it up even more, a letter could be anything.
In the ancient times, they didn’t even have our alphabet. To mark each type of food, there were symbols they used to show what was in each pot. Simple representation. So, if you think about it, all letters, words, sentences, pages and books do is signify and communicate between people.

As a result, my interpretation of ‘cover letter’ translates to a mystery representation. It lays out all of your experience, accomplishments and goals; but at the same time potentially covers up who you are in reality.

Who’s to say the same person with all these qualifications isn’t the complete opposite of who you thought they were?
The girl who went to grad school and has a great portfolio could also be the whiniest person you’ve ever met.
The same guy who worked at 3 top name agencies could be loud and obnoxious.
And you never know, the prospective assistant with the creditable internships could eat beans 3 times a day… eww.
Wouldn’t it be better to avoid the awkwardness before hand?

If we all just threw out personalities and unique things about ourselves, it would be much easier to get a jest of the person, and if they will fit into your work environment.
A lot of time could be saved and maybe you wouldn’t have had to meet that whacko that still collects beanie babies.

So in conclusion, I could write about my ‘exciting’ life; or I could just avoid the mystery I was expected to write by simply saying…

My name is Santia; I wear different colored fingernail polish, I dance at the most random times, and I like New York Cheesecake that didn’t really come from New York. I also work harder than the guy sitting next to you.

Writer in a Mediaperson's shoes.

Oh, I still blog?

Not really.
I have taken on this mysteriously new non-writing adventure called Media. With this mysteriously new take on advertising.
I don’t know where my education has brought me to at this point. I feel like we didn’t get much of it on the different positions there are in advertising. But here I am.

I started at Mediacom on June 7, 2010. Totally unclear of what to expect, I dove right into the world of digital media planning and buying. My account is Volkswagen, which is cool. I never really worked on any car brands before so I figured this would be freshly packed.
With my years of experience with the Adobe suite, I kind of had no idea that in my life I would have to put SO much emphasis on the simple and underappreciated Office 2007. If I don’t walk away with anything on this internship, I will walk away with the skills of excel, yay.

I suppose I should start to write more about my experiences and life. I’m learning a lot about advertising, and the way it works, and about office environments. I think that it will all be interesting subjects for the summer of 2010.

Stay tuned.

SantiaNance.com

Ohhhh!
I made it online lol.

It's kind of a starting site but I think it was good for it to be my first one I'm semi-proud of myself. I guess I should make more pages in the future, do more things. I'm just learning and what not.

But anyway, check it out. =)

What?

So recently I've taken a liking to this awful trashy adult teenage pop-rap music by an artist named Ke$ha.

She's awful in so many ways.

But her songs are ridiculously catchy and make no damn sense, and yet she still sells and gets downloads. I feel instantly dumber every time I hear her songs. But I love it?!

#wtfisupwiththat

What is so irresistible about her?
This I will never know.

Untitled

I
feel the wind blowing
through my hair
I
feel free.

My heart is open
no matter how closed
I want it to be.
I smell the spring
again,
wearing short sleeves
again,
buttercups rising
from bulbs
again.
And you're still here
wondering if it's going
to rain.

Can the sky
handle the humidity?
Can WE handle
the inconsistency?
these rocky roads
don't need to be
here for
more people to take risks.

More of us falling
more of us tripping
breaking
bones
hearts;
as we descend into
the fresh cut grass...
it smells so fresh
and we feel so new
renewed.
And you're still here
wondering if it's going to rain...

the clouds have gotten dark
and plenty.
We've gone back to the start
and many
chances to hold back--
I'm going back;
and thinking back--
still peddling.

The rain can't last forever
let spring take it's course.
And as the wind blows
through my hair; and
water drops form on my glasses
and the smile on your face
is frozen;
I realize
you don't care if it rains.

I'm going to start this posting thing called #ithinkitsamazing

Usually not too gung-ho for BET(TV network). Or their version of TRL, 106 and Park. But they are doing something every show that caught my attention. They start trending topics on Twitter at the beginning of their show and they read some of the tweets on the air.

The silly thing about all of this is, most of the people tweeting their trending topics don't even know that's where they came from. Personally, I found out a few weeks ago noticing a trend of a random appearing common-interest hashtags like #RUkiddingme and #thatsnotcool in the evening, around 6 when the show starts. By making it a trending topic, they get all of Twitter involved and start a social media revolution of some sort.

I must say that they have just about mastered this social/interactive media and TV thing.

Pizza w/ Auld Lang Syne

Sometimes I get discouraged about my work and what not because I am a sensitive artist but;; if I randomly disappear from here for a few it's because I am creatively drained. Smh.

Been going innnn on Pizza Fusion of the past 2 weeks and me and my partner can't seem to get it together. We've been trying but I guess not hard enough, ugh. And it kills me when I feel like I've done what I can, and then I run into a creative block. Smh. And plus this snow has been blocking my life and making me lazy. Ugh. I gotta get back on top of things.

And it doesn't help that this song is stuck in my head and won't go away;; it's making me sad.

**This has been a life update.**

My Biggest Inspiration;; I'm such a sucker for love.

I was on the internet like a year ago... maybe like 10 months, I don't know July maybe? And I came across this beautiful piece... everything about it is just amazing.

And then I let a boy see it, majoring in graphic design, we both talked about it for like 30 minutes goin innn on why it works so well. The diagonal, the colors, the tattoo on her foot, everything. We didn't even know what it meant or what it was, it was just simply beautiful. I believe I fell in love at that moment. (I'm such a nerd... smh.)

The boy and I, we put so much emphasis on our passion for design that one day we fell apart. Timing is bad, but all of our art and observation was so good.

It goes to show that some things can never work.

But I do still love that boy, and this piece. Therefore they both will always be a part of me.

Graffiti always, how you sayy... intoxicates me.
I can never stop wondering what it means...
who did it... what kind of person they are... why they did it...
it's just a lot of mystery to this kind of art...

anyway I discovered this in the alley [of course; my favorite place to find art] and decided to share.

Interactive Observation: Qdoba

Got this random e-mail from Qdoba Mexican Grill talking about playing MASH? From middle school?

M-ansion
A-partment
S-hack
H-ouse

So I click on it and it's this awesome intro about playing the game and a bit about the food. The point to play was to get a coupon for a free meal, and apparently it's random each time you play.

I was amazed that most of it wasn't about tacos and what not, until you get to the end. But they had a bunch of characters, cars, and jobs that were semi legit just like the old days when you picked your own.

But overall it was a pretty fun activity and I got a lame coupon at the end for a free drink with purchase.

But the best part about it was that I got to play again, and Qdoba was responsible for that, which will always stick out in my head... *INSIGHT*

I'm coming up with something like that in life. I learned about this in some class I've been in; that you don't want to always push a product so hard into what you want to make fun an interactive. It's got to be just enough.

CP+B, Interns, life

Thought this was funny.
I happened to come across it on AdFreak and just looking up things they talked about with Crispin Porter and Bogusky involved. But anyway their last year's summer interns made this rap video for fun.

Kind of disappointing thought because I ain't see one black person -___-; I prolly could have hit a killer verse in that song. I'll hand it to them though they did good.

I wonder how much of a chance I'll have at the big time being a black female. I want to be HUGE and I'm not going to stop until I get there... I keep figuring, in these kinds of things, in advertising, in target markets and what not, there is a need for a black voice right? So I have to fit in SOMEWHERE. And I will.

Hopefully this internship [MAIP] happens.
Oh yeah, I got to the interview stage guys. My first baby step to a big time name in advertising,

'Nance and them.'
Oh yeah, I went there.

Hitz from Julian(My EnV Touch)

I can't wait to smell the spring.
It's filled with all the common things
I remember.

Magenta flowers
and complicated twisted lies
promises of the future.
Who ever said any
of us could rise from the dead?
Who ever said any
of the bole could change to the pea
and back to brown again;
where did it all begin?

I remember drunken
words, flip flops
and angst thoughts
and the lost souls
sworn against those of truth.

I remember blank slates
and broken ones
and ones filled with words and pictures
of scrutiny and dysfunction;
slam the will to the table.

May you, May
you are the best thing that could have
happened to me.
April you take me back
to a time when I was growing
up and loving boys that never mattered
when I Hip-Hop
splattered
my name across the board
and I sh- sh-shattered my will on the table,
it's October again.

Spring will always remind me of a time
when I died.
I was green and now I'm
brown again
I was
born again as a
chlorophyll filled
lover.

Back in class...

Big question we have to answer... it was semi vague.
Why am I here?

Why am I alive?
Why am I in advertising?
Why am I in this class, Invention, aka portfolio 2?
Why am I in Temple 1148?
Why am I...

Well I made it all boil down to one thing.
I am in the class because I want to be in advertising.
I want to be in advertising because I want to communicate with people, and challenge myself, think of cool and fun things.
And in life I want a nice house or condo, a 2009 Chevy Malibu LT, and a family.
Can't do any of that without the dolla dolla bills ya'll.
So I want to make money, and this is the best and only way I'm going to know how, being creative, in any way I can.

Resources

AHA!
I was wayyy too hype when I came across this website.
It's called WhatTheHashtag.com and what it does is give definitions to all the hashtags on twitter.

BUT, the best part about it is it gives statistics on each one!
This could be a very valuable research tool for marketers if they wanted to see how much something is being tweeted about. The product, or maybe even something that is related to the product. It's purely a goldmine and I love it.

Though it was worth noting.

Bit of Inspir-

Working at bookstore today, I randomly came across a book not being used this semester called The History of Graphic Design and decided to flip through it.

Simply amazed.

I want to own it.
There were a lot of things I saw in there that I know I could one day incorporate in my work. It's not stealing though people, it's influence.

Note to self and others:
This German school Bauhaus is clearly flyer than the rest of em' like Wale would say. More research coming soon.

Also work by Peter Behrens.

Really Starbucks?
That's how you feel?

Not gonna lie, it was a good idea.
Way to be on the way to over saturating the market though.

#twitterparty

So, one of the trending topics right now on Twitter is #earthfootwear.

What is that, you ask?

Well, they are a brand about shoes that use 'negative heel technology' to help people walk straighter and burn more calories.

Now, I happen to own a pair of these shoes but only because my grandmother bought them for me, thinking about 'my health.' Normally, I wouldn't think that something like this could make a trending topic, until I researched the reasoning behind it.

With over 15,000 followers, they call her the 'Resourceful Mom.' Amy Lupold Bair is a freelance writer, a mother of course, demonstrating how to be resourceful, but also the formal inventor of what they call a 'Twitter party.'

She schedules a time and date for people to talk about a certain thing and voila, you have an entire community of people buzzing on Twitter.

For this one product, I know it is getting a crazy amount of question, considering the fact that it's not a well known brand among young people, but you better believe that people are goggling and asking friends and members on Twitter about them. And if they're not buying, they're at least creating brand awareness to stick out in the consumer's minds.

Resourceful Mom? I'd like to call her a marketing genius! She's using social networking to market like a Rockstar and use the internet/Web 2.0 to it's fullest.

Check her out @resourcefulmom and http://resourcefulmommy.com/

Her next Twitter Party is going to be on Monday, January 11th for #GotMilk.
